City Student Receives Huge Scholarship

A Thunder Bay student is getting a prestigious $80,000 scholarship from the Schulich Foundation.

Kiara Bergagnini tells us she is excited to study science at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia.

“I had the opportunity to attend (the) SHAD student leadership program there and I (also) had the opportunity to interact with many of the professors and they were so excited and passionate about what they are teaching that it made me want to go there and learn from them,” says Bergagnini.

Bergagnini is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and will be entering the Bachelor of Science program this fall.

In a normal year the Schulich Foundation awards 50 scholarships, but because of the current pandemic situation, it decided to add an extra 50 grants.

The scholarship was established by Seymour Schulich to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurial-minded, technology innovators.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
