City police response to weapons related incident leads to over a dozen charges

A 22-year-old is facing more than a dozen charges following a police response to a weapons incident in Thunder Bay.

Officers were sent to the Amelia Street West area on Friday morning after receiving reports that someone had been seen with a possible firearm.

Officers located a man matching the description they were given.

The man tried to run but he was arrested.

The suspect had suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine in their possession.

As a result, a 22-year-old is facing the following charges:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Using a firearm to commit an indictable offence
  • Failure to comply with release order (three counts)
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) (two counts)

The accused remains in custody with a future court date.
