City Partners With Railway Historical Society To Restore Caboose

Another group is stepping up to the plate to preserve the city-owned CN caboose.

In May, the Silver Mountain and Area Historical Society requested the caboose be donated to them and relocated from Marina Park to Silver Mountain, but has since withdrawn that request in fear of backlash.

At no cost to the city, about 12 people have offered to help with some wood replacement, painting and roof repairs to the city-owned CN Caboose. They got clearance to do the work from councillors, last night.

City Manager Tim Commisso says the work will be supervised to ensure all safety and health requirements are followed.

The volunteer group says they want to ensure the long-term maintenance needs of the caboose are met. (File photo)
