City Parkades Up For Discussion

Should the city sell both the Victoriaville and Waterfront parkades to private investors?

The topic is on the agenda for Monday’s council meeting thanks to a motion put forward by At Large Councillor Aldo Ruberto.

Originally the councillor wanted to make this an issue for the 2021 Budget but chose the report route instead.

That report was presented to council on July 26th, looking into the possibility of selling both parkades as staff continue to investigate additional revenue sources.

Ruberto, in his motion, makes the case that with ongoing annual operating deficits there’s no reason why the City should continue to own and operate the structures.

If approved, city staff to begin the work to divest Thunder Bay of both structures and report back to council on or before June 20, 2022.
