City Opens Transportation Study

The city wants to know what would encourage you to walk, bike, or take public transit more.

It’s part of a survey about how Thunder Bay can improve its transportation system.

The city held a public meeting Wednesday night to gather suggestions from people like Caroline Cox, who says she hopes the city will improve its sidewalk network.

She points out the sidewalk isn’t continuous along Algoma Street, making walking dangerous.

Cox says the the sidewalk changes sides of the road 4 times from Algoma at Dawson to the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital, and she regularly has to cross the street at uncontrolled intersections.

City Engineering Director Kayla Dixon says City Hall will use those comments to make policies and guidelines, and come back with an updated plan for people to comment on. She says you’ll have a chance to have your say at the next public open house in late Spring, and the City will present its draft plan for feedback in the Fall.
