City Experimenting With “Pop-Up” Patios

The city is conducting a two year patio experiment for restaurant owners.

Spokesperson Joel DePeuter tells us businesses are allowed to apply to have the sidewalks in front of their restaurants turned into a pop-up patio.

That would also involved closing off the parking lane of the street the business is on.

Restaurants would apply to have the patio and provide all that’s required in the package, including drawings.

At the end of two years the project will be reviewed and recommendations made to city council.

Applications are being accepted until the end of this month.
