City council set to hear report on potential changes to governance structure

Changes to Thunder Bay’s governance structure and council meeting procedures may be coming.

City council is set to hear a first report from city administration on potential changes aimed at improving public understanding of council decisions and offering more opportunities for community engagement.

Key recommendations include the introduction of three Standing Committees (Finance & Administration, Quality of Life, and Growth), adjustments to the Committee of the Whole structure, and the dissolution of all non-legislated Advisory Committees of Council with a few exceptions.

The report also includes proposed scheduling adjustments for council meetings, refinements to the deputation process, and revisions to council and committee agenda structures.

Councillors will get the first report on Monday before the topic is discussed on June 23.
