When Thunder Bay voters go to the polls on Monday there will 13 polling stations, about half of the number available four years ago.
However, City Clerk John Hannam isn’t concerned it will cause confusion.
“We’re confident that, given the experience in other municipalities, and certainly the experience we’ve been seeing this past week, is that what we’ve got set up is enough to meet the in-person demand.”
He tells us the reason for the fewer polls is because of online and telephone voting.
“We were looking to find a balance between the cost of running physical elections, in terms of polling locations, along with the cost of online and telephone voting.”
Hannam believes the reduction in in-person voting stations will also save the city between $20,000 and $25,000.
