City begins delivering new garbage carts

Residents of Thunder Bay can expect to roll out their new, automatically-collected garbage carts to the curb by the first week of June.

One-quarter of city residents received new carts in the fall as part of a pilot program to ensure the automated garbage collectors functioned properly.

Now, over the course of May, the city will be distributing garbage carts to the remaining three-quarters of residents who didn’t receive a cart during the pilot rollout.

Once the new carts enter usage through the week of June 1, the city will no longer collect garbage put out in old cans or bags.

Instructions for using the new system are attached to every cart.
