Change Coming To Boulevard Lake Tennis

You have probably noticed the tennis courts at Boulevard Lake have been ripped up.

Werner Schwar is the city’s Supervisor of Parks, and tells us they found the ground did not have the best foundation. “Discovered that there really wasn’t a whole lot of granular base under the courts, and that’s the reason they were in such poor condition. We’ve done a full excavation, we’re doing proper drainage underneath, and proper granular base.”

The Supervisor of Parks adds when the work is done, there will be two tennis courts, and four pickle ball courts, due to demand.

“We do have lines for both pickle ball, and tennis on some courts, but that ends up being a lot of lines and confusing people. By converting two tennis courts we actually get four pickle ball courts,” says Schwar.

He adds it’ll cost about $300,000 to fix the land and convert to pickle ball, from tennis.

“It’s a smaller court, the net is roughly the same in terms of height. And they’re using a solid racket with a bigger ball, so the ball doesn’t have as much bounce,” notes the Parks Supervisor.

The city was considering pickle ball at the Dease pool site.
