I do a LOT of driving, at least 2 hours a day, 7 days a week…which I guess isn’t terrible but a lot of it is highway driving. I find that, particularly as the days get shorter, the noise from my wheels and the wind outside is not only drowning out my music, it’s making me drowsy. It’s not an uncommon problem, lots of long haul truck drivers and people who drive long distances for work suffer the same thing. Well, the folks at Jaguar and Land Rover have introduced a new technology to combat this! The short version is that the vehicle has sensors that asses outside noise, and playback white noise through the speakers to cancel out the outside noise! Then you’re not being lulled to sleep, apparently. Now, that being said, I sleep with white noise on at night so will the back fire on me? Since I work in radio, I’m unlikely to ever be able to afford a Jaguar with noise cancelling technology, but it’s nice to dream!
I think it’s actually a really neat and nerdy idea that could save some lives if it can be incorporated into transports and buses as well!
