First Cannabis Store Proposed For Victoria Avenue

The Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario has announced the latest round of companies who have been selected in a lottery draw to open cannabis retail stores.

Gerald Harrison can now apply for a licence for a store at 1802 Victoria Avenue East.

The proposed site for Thunder Bay’s first legal cannabis store is at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Waterloo Street. It’s in a cluster of buildings that once featured a Mac’s Convenience Store.

Gerald Harrison applied for several other locations including Toronto, Ottawa and Kitchener but was listed as ineligible for all locations except Thunder Bay.

217 applications came into the AGCO to open a store in Thunder Bay.

Applicants have until August 28th to apply for a licence, at which point the AGCO will undertake its full eligibility and licensing review.

The AGCO will only licence applicants and authorize stores that meet all legal and regulatory requirements.

The business that applies for the licence will have to pay fees and prove the to commission they have the money to operate come this fall.

In Kenora, Carl Ignatius was the selected applicant for a potential store at 420 Second Street South.

This is the second round of cannabis stores to open in Ontario.
