The crash took place during Operation Inspiration, which was meant to brighten spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A snowbird’s jet crashed in Thunder Bay in August of 2005 just prior to an airshow which was scheduled for the waterfront.

The 39-year-old pilot Capt. Andrew MacKay ejected safely before the aircraft crashed in a field in a rural part of the city. He was not injured.
