Campaign Plants 25 Million Trees

A campaign to plant 50-million trees by 2025 has passed the half-way mark.

Forests Ontario continues to seek out landowners willing to participate.
Northern Ontario’s forest advisor Peter Gagnon says land not being used for agricultural purposes would be ideal.

“We’re looking to find those little niches” where trees could thrive but crops wouldn’t be planted, he notes.

Close to half a million trees were planted in northern Ontario this year.

Gagnon says the program provides a subsidy to landowners who only have to contribute 10 to 15 cents per tree.
