Businesses on the Fort William First Nation will be allowed to open next week after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Peter Collins suggests one of the reasons for making the decision was more positive news on the health front in Thunder Bay.
“The numbers…of people who have gotten better…outweigh a lot of different things. If you look what’s going on in the (Thunder Bay Heath Sciences Centre) now there are only four people in the COVID section, no one in ICU,” notes Collins.
The Chief also points out the band council has the option of closing down the businesses again if the situation gets worse but “hopefully we don’t need to.”
The businesses on the reserve will reopen to community members on Monday and everyone else on Tuesday.
