Bus Company Owner Pleads For Government Help

Kasper Transporation is hoping to continue bus service in northwestern Ontario once pandemic concerns ease and it can operate again.

Owner Kasper Wabinski is asking the provincial and federal governments for financial assistance since COVID-19 has hit his company hard.

“We have requested the federal government and provincial government to come through with a subsidy or some financial assistance to help us to stay operational at a minimum and essential level for people in the region,” notes Kasper.

The bus company owner’s comments follow news that provincially run Northland Transportation will be expanding bus service in northwestern Ontario.

Kasper is hoping both levels of government “put a proper effort in our region” to provide service to communities like Atikokan, Fort Frances, Red Lake, and Sioux Lookout.

He adds he is not upset but disappointed the government is helping the provincial service, and not private companies, as it is the public throughout the region that are suffering with lack of service for areas not covered by Ontario Northland.
