Bombardier’s Survival Pinned On The TTC

There is hope for the local Bombardier plant following news 200 workers will be laid off.

The company says there will not be enough work there to sustain that many workers by early next year.

Ontario Infrastructure Minister Laurie Scott indicates the Ford government is hoping Toronto transit upgrades will be the answer to keeping the Thunder Bay facility in operation for some time to come.

“We have certainly put transit as a priority for Toronto and that (is) complimentary to Bombardier up in Thunder Bay to keep that plant,” notes Scott.

Thunder Bay-Rainy River Liberal MP Patty Hajdu adds the federal government is standing ready to fund a Toronto streetcar project.

She says “The best solution would be for Bombardier to continue to make cars and in fact I know that the City of Toronto is needing new streetcars, certainly we stand ready to fund that project.”

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
