Bombardier Union Hopeful For New Contract

The head of the local union representing workers at Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant is encouraged by recent discussions between the Federal and Provincial governments regarding future public transit contracts.

Unifor local 1075 president Dominic Pasqualino tells us it appears their hard work lobbying the governments could pay off.

“We know now that they have heard us. Hopefully, they can work together so we can get a contract soon. It’s vital we get a contract now, it looks like there will be some layoffs, but if we get a contract soon, maybe we can minimize that.”

The union president adds time is of the essence since a contract could be held up by delays in ordered parts.

Bombardier’s two main contracts are expected to be finished by the end of the year.
