Blue Ice Gawkers Are Trespassing

Anyone who is planning to go to view or take pictures of the blue ice from Lake Superior on the north side of the city take note….you are trespassing.

The message comes from the chief pilot for Wilderness North Air, Dan Murray.

“The ‘Blue Ice’ phenomenon has exploded in popularity over the last few weeks with locals and photographers. Unfortunately for us here at Wilderness North, this has been a thorn in our side. The majority of people believe they are using abandoned land (old Superior Fine Papers) however this is all the property of Wilderness North. The road that leads to the point, is not a road, its a taxiway for our aircraft,” said Murray.

There are no trespassing signs which he says people seem to ignore and in one case someone drove over a stop gate.

Murray adds it is also a safety concern since to get to the blue ice you must walk over the ice covering Lake Superior.
