Impaired charges for BC speeder with stolen plates

A British Columbia man is facing a number of charges stemming from a Monday night traffic stop.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle near 9 p.m. on Highway 102 near Alppila Road for speeding.

An investigation found the 39-year-old driver had been consuming alcohol and was immediately taken into custody for further testing at the detachment.

This has resulted in a list of charges:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);
  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with prohibition order
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Speeding 28km/hr over posted limit
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

Police say the “Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000” charge is for stolen licence plates, which were on the vehicle when officers ran a query on the vehicle during the stop.

The accused is being held in custody and will make a court appearance Tuesday.
