Association Holds Firm In Strike Position

Today is the 2nd day of pickets at a variety of sheet metal companies across Thunder Bay and around the province.

It comes after unions decided to strike against the Ontario Sheet Metal Contractors Association, with OSMCA spokesperson Darryl Stewart telling us they are more than willing to come back to the bargaining table.

“We hope to get some dialogue, we don’t think it’s in the best interest of the union members, we don’t think it’s in the best interest of the employers, and we certainly don’t think it’s in the best interest of the industry as a whole.”

According to union officials, local projects like the new elementary school at the former Churchill site are expected to be impacted by the strike.

Stewart adds they’ll be holding firm to their position.

“We’re not happy about it, but we feel it’s something we need to hold ground to, because we believe it’s in the best interests of the industry as a whole, and also in the long term for the industry.”
