The new set of traffic lights at the intersection of Arthur and Ford are now in operation.
City project engineer Matthew Miedema tells us the signals will give pedestrians a safe place to cross Arthur Street.
“There is a high amount of pedestrians that use the Ford Street corridor…it’s a great recreational corridor that provides a connection north-south so there’s a high volume of pedestrians wanting to cross Arthur Street at that location,” notes Miedema.
He also points out studies have shown there have been a “high number of collisions” at that intersection.
It brings to 14 the number of controlled intersections along Arthur Street.
Meidema admits “It is a high number for sure, and I understand driver’s frustration” with the amount of stopping and starting that takes place.
He says in order to help out the city has made those traffic lights rest on ‘green’ along Arthur Street unless there is a waiting vehicle on Ford Street.
