Art Helping Survivors Of Sexual Violence

Survivors of sexual violence have a means of telling their story through digital art, with Thunder Bay police and Northwestern Ontario Women’s Centre.

It’s a program called Honouring Our Stories, something Sergeant Lori Wright claims will help people realize police are here to help.

She says this project helped one survivor change her bias against police for the better.

Police want people to report and do it in a timely manner.

They also hope this 2-year old project encourages people who’ve suffered sexual violence to take this message back to their communities.

Wright adds she has learned everyone responds to trauma differently, so there’s no correct way to help someone.
