Art Gallery Opens Maud Lewis Exhibit

Starting today the Thunder Bay Art Gallery is displaying the works of Maud Lewis.

Gallery spokesperson Corey Wilkinson explains the Nova Scotia artist has played an important role in Canadian culture.

He says Maud Lewis is “one of Canada’s most famous folk artists,” and she painted thousands of pictures of idyllic east coast life.

Just over 100 of her works will be on display at the gallery until January 3rd.

Wilkinson adds “It’s the first time a collection of her work of this magnitude has ever been displayed in Thunder Bay or northern Ontario.”

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
