Arson Charge Laid In John Street Fire

A 15-year old boy is charged with arson after a north end fire.

Emergency crews were called to the John Street address near Balmoral early Monday morning. Everyone inside made it out safely.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office determined it to be arson, with police making an arrest just after midnight, early Wednesday.

The Thunder Bay youth is also charged with two counts of breach of probation, in relation to January charges of First-Degree Murder, Break and Enter, Disguise with Intent and Aggravated Assault.

He cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and remains in custody.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
