Northwestern Town Declares State Of Emergency

A state of emergency has been declared by Atikokan, due to concerns of the COVID-19 virus.

In a statement on the town’s website, its Emergency Measures Community Control Group met recently, and felt the need in order to have the necessary resources to handle the pandemic. The declaration supports measures such as restricted gatherings, reinforcing social distancing of at least two metres apart, and continued sanitation measures. Its also asking residents to self isolate and see a doctor, if feeling symptoms, and if recently travelled outside Canada.

For anyone who wants to get tested, as assessment centre is set up the Atikokan Family Health Team building, on Zuke Road, with appointment needed. You can get that by calling 807-597-8781, ext. 0.

All public meetings, including council, have been cancelled until further notice.

Two residents were recently cleared of having the virus.
