Annual Orange Shirt Day Walk happening at City Hall

Members of the Executive Council of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) will be hosting their annual walk in commemoration of Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Thunder Bay City Hall. At 11:30 a.m., participants will walk to Vickers Park.

The general public is invited to join the event, where they will be joined by residential school survivors and their families.

Orange Shirt Day was created to honour the thousands of children who never returned home from Canada’s residential schools, and the thousands more who survived but were forever changed by the experience.

The day inspired the federal government’s creation of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is a statutory holiday that also occurs on Tuesday.
