Agreement Talks Ongoing Between City, TBCA

No further update on discussions to determine a new agreement between the City of Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium (TBCA).

Talks ramped up back in January with the facility being at arm’s length for the last 36 years.

In an email to Acadia News on Friday, City Manager Norm Gale stressed the auditorium and the city are distinct, separate legal entities.

Gale also emphasized that TBCA employees are not City employees.

In a related note, Trevor Hurtig was appointed as the General Manager on June 1st.

Hurtig took over for the retiring Bob Halvorsen on January 29th.

Auditorium funds are covered through the Cultural and Recreational Program in the 2022 Budget, with a total of $740,000.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
