Adjudicator Rules Officers To Face Disciplinary Hearing

An adjudicator has ruled that three City of Thunder Bay police officers will face a disciplinary hearing in the case of Stacy DeBungee.

It is for how they handled the Thunder Bay death of the 41-year-old in 2015.

According to the DeBungee’s family lawyer, Falconers LLP, adjudicator Lee Ferrier indicated that the three officers may be served with Notices of Hearing, which is the first step in instituting disciplinary proceedings under the Police Services Act.

The adjudicator noted that his decision was just one part of a much larger controversy involving policing of Indigenous people in Thunder Bay.

He cited the public importance in seeing serious police misconduct adjudicated.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
