Accelerating Second Doses To Delta Hot Spots

The province is accelerating second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Delta hot spots.

Starting Monday June 14 at 8:00 a.m. residents who live in Halton, Peel, Porcupine, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph and York public health units can get their addition shot through their local health unit’s website.

The Delta variant was formerly known as the B.1.617 variant that originated in India.

“With an increased supply of vaccines, we continue to make it easier than ever to receive a vaccine to help protect those most at risk against COVID-19 variants, stop the spread and protect our hospital capacity,” remarked Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott.

Elliott confirmed Thursday that further expansion of accelerated second doses across Ontario will happen as soon as additional vaccine allocations and shipment timelines are confirmed by the federal government.

As of June 10, more than 10.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to Ontarians. Over 73 per cent of adults have had one dose, and more than 11 per cent are fully immunized.
