The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is asking a panel of university teachers to give them advice on the school’s relationship with Indigenous people, the very group the school was set up to help.
Spokesperson Darrel Matawaby notes it’s been 15 years since the the school was opened and it’s time for a review, giving an opportunity for Indigenous staff, students and communitiy members to “provide a perspective.”
He calls it a “self reflection” to allow those affected to take a snapshot of the current situation and what changes need to be made
A report on the pane’s findings is expected to be made public in September.
