Orvin “Pa” Loroff

Orvin Loroff passed away on the morning of October 31, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, on September 27, 1945, and raised on the family farm in Elma, Manitoba, until his family relocated to Fort William. In the years that followed, Orvin met Pat, and together they built a beautiful life on Garden Avenue, raising two sons along the way.

Orvin was the hardest-working man, a proud sheet metal worker and a devoted member of Local Union No. 397 for over 50 years. A man of many talents, he was the person everyone turned to when something needed to be built or fixed. There was very little he couldn’t do, and he never gave up on even the most challenging project. Everything was homemade, and nothing store-bought ever quite measured up to his craftsmanship.

Orvin never stopped moving and could always be found puttering away in his garage, working on his next project and bringing his many ideas to life. He spent much of his life building and perfecting his camp at Reta Lake, a place that became the setting for countless beautiful memories with his family. Among his many accomplishments, he even built a pontoon boat from scratch. Whether it was a big project or a small repair, Orvin took pride in doing things himself and doing them right, because “that ain’t no Mickey Mouse.”

Above all, Orvin loved his family unconditionally. He celebrated every special occasion with infectious enthusiasm and found childlike joy in life’s simplest pleasures. He believed in appreciating what he had, and the grass was never greener on the other side because his lawn was always the greenest.

He found joy in music, dancing, and the little moments that brought people together. He especially treasured these times in the comfort of his home whenever his grandchildren came to visit. When his grandchildren came along, they became the center of his world. He would drop whatever he was doing to be there for them, any time of day. He always had a saying for everything, and many of his familiar expressions became part of the family’s own language. His words of wisdom, familiar expressions, and lessons will continue to be shared and carried on by those who loved him.

Orvin will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 60 years, Pat; his son, Bradley (Michelle); his granddaughter, Madeline (Reinier); his grandson, Jacob (Katie); and many other family members and dear friends.

He is now reunited with his beloved son, Terry, whom he missed dearly. He was also predeceased by his much-loved daughter-in-law, Rae-Lyn, whom he adored; his parents, Mike and Anne; his brothers, Arthur and Clifford; and his sisters, Cecile and Elsie.

A funeral service for Orvin will be held at Holy Family Church on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow immediately after at the Da Vinci.

Those wishing to honour Orvin may make donations in his memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Cancer Centre or the Holy Family Church Renovation Fund.
