Rodney Thomas

Rodney George Thomas, born May 9, 1949, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Thunder Bay, following a long battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, Rodney faced his journey with remarkable courage, strength, and determination.

Rodney was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margie, who was by his side throughout his journey.

Rodney was the devoted father of three children, Aynsley, Nathan, and Jonathan. He was also a cherished grandfather to Paige and Mitchell McIntyre; Logan and Aderyn Thomas; and Ethan, Adria and Elizabeth Thomas. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he will be remembered for the love he gave his family, the memories he created with them, and the lasting place he holds in their hearts.

A man of many talents, Rodney had a deep love and appreciation for nature. From careers in conservation to forestry, he enjoyed working, was skilled with his hands and found great satisfaction in building and renovating homes, fixing cars and countless other things that he put his mind to. He was a man who could see what needed to be done and was always willing to lend his time, knowledge, and abilities to help make things better.

Above all, Rodney was a caring Christian whose faith was at the centre of his life. He lived his faith through action, tirelessly helping others whenever he could. He was a friend to many and found great joy in helping his friends, church, neighbours, and even strangers. Rodney was passionate about sharing the Good News and bringing encouragement, kindness, and hope to those around him. His generosity of spirit and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on the people whose lives he touched. He gave freely of his time and talents, often asking for nothing in return.

Rodney will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, neighbours, church community, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His faith, kindness, hard work, and love for others will remain a lasting part of his legacy. Though his long and courageous battle has come to an end, the love he gave and the lives he touched will continue to carry his memory forward.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 at 1pm at Westfort Baptist Church. Rev Allan Piper will officiate.
