Women and soccer – in Thunder Bay

With soccer in the spotlight – there’s no escaping the FIFA World Cup of Soccer.  BUT – on a local level…something historic is underway.

Back in early May, the Thunder Bay Chill soccer organization – announced the creation of a women’s team…that will play in the Prairies Premier League – a newly formed league.  This league is jointly managed by both the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Soccer Association.  This inaugural season features seven founding clubs – and that includes the Thunder Bay Chill WOMEN’S TEAM.  Most of the players on the women’s roster have come up through the Chill or Rush system.  The goal for year one – is to build the franchise.

It’s a quick season that’ll wrap up regular play in mid-July.  The women’s next home game is set for the 27th against Regina at TbayTel Field in Chapples Park.  If you have time – check them out, cheer them on.  Congratulations to these awesome women who are part of this league – and being the role models for future players.  GOOD LUCK in your season.
