OPP lay 1st degree murder charge in death of OPP officer

An 18-year-old from Hearst has been charged with first degree murder in the death of an OPP officer.

Police say the incident took place Tuesday around 12:30 pm on a road near Hearst as officers attempted to stop a vehicle as part of an on-going investigation.

Officer Tarum Bali was struck by the by the vehicle and was serious injured.

He was later pronounced deceased.

In addition to first degree murder charges, the suspect has been charged with assaulting police, flight from police, resisting arrest and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

He remains in custody and will appear in Hearst Court on June 24th to face the charges.
