The Thunder Bay Border Cats picked up two wins in four outings against the Eau Claire Express in their early-season series.
The home team won every game, with the Cats taking the first two on Friday and Saturday before travelling to the Eau Claire to drop the next two on Sunday and Monday.
Friday’s game was a walk-off thriller, as designated hitter Alex Kean drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the tenth inning.
Shortstop Manny Alberto has emerged from the bench as one of Thunder Bay’s hottest hitters. Alberto started his first game Saturday and has since went 4 for 13 at the plate.
Right fielder Dante Smith had the best single game of any hitter, going 2 for 4 on Saturday with two doubles and two RBIs in a 7-2 win. He took home Player of the Game honours.
On the mound, Carson Small had another excellent outing in Saturday’s win. His ERA sits at a perfect 0.0 as he has now pitched nine scoreless innings on the season.
Pitcher Luke Brown rebounded well from a tough shelling in Wednesday’s 19-0 loss to the Loggers. Brown gave up only one hit in three innings in Sunday’s loss.
The Cats sit at 3-5 on the season. They will meet the Minnesota Mud Puppies at home on Tuesday during Tequila and Tacos Night at Port Arthur Stadium.
