Thunder Bay firefighters handle three blazes in one day

Thursday was a busy day for Thunder Bay Fire Rescue—but a successful one.

Crews controlled two structure fires and a grass fire, with no injuries reported.

The first call came at around noon on Mission Island. The first arriving pumper reported over two hectares of land involved in a grass fire. Additional resources were requested, and over 3,000 feet of hose was needed contain the fire.

At 6 pm, crews responded to a reported structural fire on the 200 block of Cameron Street. A fire was located within the walls of a detached garage and was quickly brought under control using a single charged hose line.

At 8:30 pm, firefighters encountered a large volume of smoke and flame coming from a detached garage on the 1300 block of Edward Street South.

A total of six pumpers and one aerial ladder came to the scene to quickly bring the fire under control and limit extension to the home and nearby structures. The garage and its contents sustained extensive damage.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue says it would like to remind residents not to delay calling 9-1-1 if they suspect a fire or emergency.
