The Lakehead Japanese Cultural Association invites the community to experience the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours of Japanese Canadian culture at the annual Summer Matsuri. This free, family-friendly evening festival welcomes everyone for an unforgettable celebration of community and heritage.
The Matsuri features a dynamic lineup of live entertainment, highlighted by heart-pounding Japanese taiko drumming, an elegant kimono dressing demonstration, and martial arts showcase. Following last year’s popular debut, the Cosplay Contest returns to the festival lineup. The contest will kick off with a energized “positivity parade,” with the final winner determined entirely by audience vote. Festival-goers looking to take center stage themselves can look forward to a fun karaoke opportunity. In addition to live performances, attendees can explore a bustling market featuring local artisans and cultural goods, alongside an array of food vendors serving up delicious, authentic Asian cuisine.
Whether festival goers are looking to taste incredible food, feel the beat of the drums, or cheer on the cosplay parade, the Summer Matsuri offers a welcoming space for all ages to connect and experience Japanese Canadian culture first-hand.
