NOSM presenting 2 honorary degrees

A Sioux Lookout elder is being presented one of two honorary degrees by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

Theresa Fiddler is being recognized for Indigenous health advocacy, which led to reforms to the health care system.

She and her huband along with several others took part in a hunger strike in 1988 at the Sioux Lookout Indian Zone Hospital.

NOSM calls it one of the most consequential acts of Indigenous resistance in Canadian health care history.

The honorary degree will be presented at the NOSM convocation on May 22nd in Thunder Bay.
