November 7, 1939 – April 17, 2026
It is with great sadness the family of Marvin Wilhelm Adolf Wideman announce his peaceful passing on April 17th, 2026, only four months after the loss of his beloved wife, Clarice.
Marvin was born in Port Arthur and raised in Sunshine and Murillo. He met the love of his life, Clarice, at a dance, and they married on November 5th, 1960, recently celebrating 65 years of marriage. They began their life together in the “Little House” on Murphy Avenue before moving to their home in Rosslyn, where they lived for 63 years and raised their four children: Shawn, Dale, Scott, and Crystal.
Marvin worked as an electrician for various companies and at Manitoba Pool elevator. A true jack of all trades, he could fix anything and was always finding creative ways to repurpose and recycle. He was always on the lookout for treasures at yard sales and flea markets that might fuel his next project. One of his favourite sayings was, “There’s nothing up there, it’s all down here.”
He built a family camp on Cloud Lake, where he loved spending time on the water pulling the kids on water-skis and tubes or taking a leisurely tour around the lake. His love of the outdoors extended to fishing on many lakes, as well as trips with his grandchildren in the trailer to Little Pigeon Bay. When he wasn’t at the lake, he could often be found at home in the garden, where his interests grew into a passion for collecting antique farm equipment and tractors. He took great pride in his impressive collection of model tractors, cars, and racing memorabilia.
Above all, Marvin cherished life’s simple pleasures. Country drives, telling stories, and coffee with friends were among his and Clarice’s favourite pastimes, enjoyed together right up until the end. He was a natural teacher with a wealth of knowledge, an extraordinarily hard worker, and someone who was always the first to lend a hand to family and friends. His strong work ethic and generosity live on in his family through the example he set. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him.
Marvin is survived by his children Shawn (Cheryl), Dale (Mary), Scott (Tracey), and Crystal (Leonard); his 10 grandchildren, Shannon, Amanda (Jeff), Shawn Jr. (Alexa), Ryan, Justin (Carina), Robyn (Ryan), Troy (Jasmine), Shelby (Jerry), Devon (Taylor), and Kerri (Lyndon); and his 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Alan Robbins and Lloyd Robbins; his sisters-in-law Gale Bloye and Irene (Bernie) Goliboski; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Marvin was predeceased by his beloved wife Clarice; his parents Arthur and Hilda Wideman; his brother and sister-in-law Raynold and Beatrice Wideman; his stepsister Elne Englemark; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Delbert and Julia Robbins; his brother-in-law James Robbins; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alma and Bill Kempe; and nephews Dean Wideman and Bernie Goliboski Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Slovak Legion on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Marvin supported many charities over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
