OPP reducing time it takes to get Criminal Record Check

The OPP says it is making good progress in bringing down the time it takes to get a criminal record check.

Due to a backlog in processing the checks, turnaround times reached 12 to 14 weeks last summer and fall.

Provincial Police say they conducted a full review of the of the Online Police Record Checks Unit, including an internal audit.

They also updated policies and procedures and allocated extra resources to meet increased demand.

The goal is to have a record check completed within 30 days, but the current turn-around time is just 10 days.

The current turnaround times are published weekly on the application website.
