PETER WILLIAMS

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peter Williams on April 10, 2026 a devoted husband, father, grand father and great grandfather.

Peter Ivor Williams was born in West Hartlepool, England July 25, 1939 whilst his father served as Colonel in the British Army during World War II. His grandfather, Marmont Warren was CEO of Gray’s Shipyard, where Peter completed his apprenticeship in engineering. He married Hazel Cairns in 1963 then emigrated to Canada in 1966. Peter completed his Canadian qualification as a professional engineer at McGill University, Quebec and worked as a consultant for Proctor & Redfern in Thunder Bay after many years with Abitibi across many provinces.

In the 80’s, Peter started his own Engineering practice, Baytherm Industrial, completing many projects in the lumber and mining areas. In 1990, Hazel and Peter purchased Trails End Lodge, on Clearwater Lake near Emo, Ontario, a first-class fishing destination. Peter served as President on the NW Tourism Board and was also asked to serve on the International Joint Border Waters Commission with the U.S.

Peter and Hazel, retired to Thunder Bay in 2005 where they continued to enjoy skiing, square and ballroom dancing and many other activities in the community. They travelled to many countries, however, Sailing on the Windjammer tall ships in the Caribbean was their delight.

Peter is survived by his wife of 62 years and his brother David Williams in England, as well as his son Martin & Kathy Williams in Emo, Ontario and daughter Clare & Darrin Kempe in Thunder Bay. He is also survived by his grandchildren Samantha & Tevin Lander and Dylan Kempe (Erica) in Thunder Bay and, Maxwell Williams (Carley) in Fort Frances as well his great grandchildren Etta & baby Darius Lander (Thunder Bay)

Thank you to all our friends and family who helped Hazel and the family through support and care of Peter including the dedicated staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Walford Retirement home and Roseview Manor. We are forever grateful for their support and kindness to a most gentleman, our father, grandfather, friend and husband.

If desired donations to the RFDA in Thunder Bay, in Memory of Peter, would be greatly appreciated. As per Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
