Elizabeth (Shizzie) Anne Garrow

May 12, 1968 – February 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth (Shizzie) Anne Garrow on February 20, 2026, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Liz was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1968, in Kenora, Ontario, to her parents, Juanita Agnes Marie Burns and John Burns.

Liz came into this world fighting. Born with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and undergoing surgery as a baby to remove a large strawberry birthmark, she faced challenges from the very beginning. That fighting spirit defined her life. She persevered with strength and determination for as long as she possibly could.

In the mid-1980s, Liz met the love of her life, Curtis Garrow. They were first married in 1990. Over 41 years together, Liz and Curt renewed their vows four more times. In fact, the last time was officiated by the king of rock and roll himself, Elvis Presley, with family present. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Cierra Rae-Marie Garrow and Sarayah Lin Garrow.

Liz was predeceased by her sister, Tammy Lynne Burns; her parents, Juanita Agnes Marie Burns and John Burns; and her in-laws, Dave and Linda Garrow.

She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Curtis Garrow; her daughters, Cierra Rae-Marie Garrow (Smith; Adam Smith) and Sarayah Lin Garrow (Dylan Zeemo); her half-sister, Ashley Burns; Her Sister-in-Law, Teryl Garrow (Stuart); and numerous aunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends.

Liz had a deep passion for helping others and found joy in making thoughtful, handmade gifts. She delighted in seeing people smile. One of her greatest passions was building the Wellness Project from the ground up. She longed to return to work so she could once again be with “her people” and, to this day, was determined to get back to work.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Monique, Ric, and Shruti at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for the outstanding care provided to Liz in her final days, and to the entire 3A ward team. Thank you to Dr. Rizk for his relentless pursuit of solutions, his unwavering advocacy, and his deep commitment to Liz’s care. We are also profoundly grateful to Charlene Melillo for her compassion and steady presence during some of the most challenging moments of Liz’s life. Thank you to the nurses and doctors on 3 East in Kenora for their care and dedication.

We would also like to thank Konstantina Adamopoulos, the Plaza Restaurant, and Kassandra Arsenault, as well as Ken and Tricia Magnusson, for providing our family with beautiful meals, ensuring we were nourished and cared for while we grieved. To all our family and friends who called, texted, FaceTimed, visited, sent cards, gifts, food, and offered their support, please know how deeply this has touched our hearts and supported us during our healing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to It’s a Dog Life and the Cat Shelter in Kenora. Please note that there will not be a formal service, but the family will hold a celebration of life in the summer.
