Carol Marilyn Furioso (nee Balina), age 78 years of Thunder Bay passed away in hospital Saturday, February 21, 2026 with her loving family by her side after a brief battle with cancer.

Carol was a devoted wife, mother & grandmother. Carol’s family were her pride & joy. She would do anything for them without question, especially her grandchildren, they meant the world to her.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of almost 58 years Jim, daughter Sherry Whitehurst (John), grandchildren Darryl Whitehurst, Brittany Whitehurst (Rannon Ahlstrom), Katelyn Furioso & Ashley Furioso. Carol is predeceased by her son Jim Jr., parents Joe & Mary Balina as well as numerous brothers, sisters, nieces & nephews, too many to mention by name as Carol came from a large family of 18 brothers & sisters.

Carol’s family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who helped care for her, Dr. Bezanson, Dr. Chan, Dr. Haggerty, Paramed nurses Amanda, Kiana & Connor, Nurse Practitioner Meredith Orr, Valerie from Vitalaire for all their compassionate care of Carol as well as all of the Doctor’s, Nurses & Paramedics who cared for her in hospital, we can not thank you enough. A special thank you to our dear Brittany Scholz who took the time to make sure her “Gram” was looking her best. “Gram” loved spending time with her Brittany’s. 

As per Carol’s wishes there will be no service. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum at a later date.

In lieu of flowers those who wish may make a memorial donation to a charity of your choice.
