Thunder Bay local facing child pornography charges

The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) has charged a 28-year-old from the city with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.

Members of the TBPS Cyber Crime unit began an investigation last July after receiving a tip.

In late November, TBPS officers searched a home on the city’s south end, seizing electronics.

Through the investigation, the TBPS decided to press charges.

The accused individual has been released from custody with a future court date.

Anyone with information about the investigation can contact Detective Constable Joel Manherz at (807)-684-1200 ext. 4115.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.

The TBPS asks parents to be vigilant in protecting their children from online exploitation.

Those with a sexual interest in children can find resources through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, or through the Talking for Change program.
