Russell William Stecky, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at the age of 95, on January 19, 2026, at Hogarth River Manor in Thunder Bay.
He was born in Zhoda, Manitoba on May 6, 1930.
Russ adored his family and is survived by his 3 children, Brian (Karen)Stecky, Kari (Karl) Madsgaard, Dianne (Shawn) Wood.
Russ was a loving grandfather to Chris (Kelli) Stecky, Justin (Sarah) Stecky, Meghan (Rejean) Gagnon, Dane \Beth) Madsgaard, Brynn (Alex) Blenkarn.
Russ was a devoted great grandfather, to Chase and Allie Stecky, Henri and Amelia Gagnon, Ezra, Charlotte and Wilder Madsgaard.
Russ leaves behind a younger brother Ellie (Mary) Stecky as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Russ was predeceased by his beautiful grand daughter Anette Forsyth, his mother Mary Premus, and brothers, Eddie Premus, Walter and Frank Stecky.
Russ enjoyed spending time with his family. Russ loved to cook, his homemade meat torchieres and mushroom tarts were always delicious and in demand. He loved the sunshine; it was never too hot for him. He spent many hours putting a golf ball throughout the yard while tending to his very impressive vegetable garden.
Russ lived by the words “AGE IS JUST A NUMBER” proving it many times over. As a senior, he participated in the Thunder Bay Marathon, and at the age of 83 he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream, he volunteered at the Staal Classic Golf Tournament, proudly wore his official shirt and hat, as he held up the “QUIET” sign for the gallery, truly a highlight in his life.
Russ will be dearly missed by his family,
