Today…a little reminder for parents… and honestly, for all of us. We live in a world where kids are basically a swipe away from entertainment — screens, games, videos, noise everywhere — and boredom’s the enemy. But one expert says… maybe boredom is exactly what kids need.
Calissa Ngozi, a child and youth care professor at Mohawk College. She told CTV that we’ve “lost the art of pause.” Kids are growing up in nonstop stimulation, and it’s messing with their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and handle frustration.
Her solution? Let them be bored. Seriously. When a kid says “I’m bored,” you don’t have to fix it. Suggest a book, a game, some Lego — and let their creativity kick in. She says boredom builds independence, balance, and resilience.
And yes… we, as parents, have to do it too. You can’t tell your kid to get off the tablet while you’re scrolling on your phone.
