This is the kind of story that just makes your whole day — an Ottawa woman who became a multi‑millionaire overnight is using her winnings in the most incredible way. Her name’s Patty Warden, and she knows firsthand how tough things can be. She told CTV News the hardest part for families isn’t even the bills — it’s just trying to afford groceries.

So what does she do? She walks into a grocery store called Foodland… and just starts handing out grocery gift cards. Quietly. No cameras. No big announcement. Hundreds of cards. People were shocked.  Imagine thinking you’re about to spend way too much on groceries and a stranger steps in to help.  By the end of the day, she gave away more than $20,000.  Patty won a $70 million Lotto Max last year. But she says the real life‑changer isn’t the money…it’s being able to help people.

Patty survived trauma, addiction, even homelessness. She says her mom helped her rebuild her life with integrity and compassion — and now she wants to pass that on.
