Tapio Kontuvirta

Tapio Kontuvirta age 85, resident of Shuniah, Ontario, passed away suddenly. Born in Finland he was raised and educated there. He was employed as a machine operator with the forest industry, retiring after 40 years of service.

In Kalevala legend the king of the forest is named Tapio. Well this Tapio Kontuvirta sure lived up to being a king of his own forest. Large percentage of his daily life was outdoors; building, gardening, gathering and harvesting. He also had creative talents in carpentry and Woods crafts. A bit of a Renaissance man in figuring out how to fix, modify, or improve just about anything from mechanical to construction.

Tapio is survived by his wife Mailis Kontuvirta, his daughter Eeva and son in law Jonathan Solomon, 2 brothers & 2 sisters in Finland & special friends in Thunder Bay & Shuniah.

A celebration of life for family and friends to be announced on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in memory of Tapio, given his great appreciation for the forest.
