NOMA applauds deal between province and feds

The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is welcoming an agreement signed between the federal and provincial governments this month.

The two sides have signed a cooperation agreement to eliminate duplicate regulatory processes.

Rick Dumas is president of NOMA and says this will advance the province’s One Project, One Review and One Decision approach.

“This agreement reflects what Northern Ontario municipalities have been calling for over many years,” said Dumas.

“Reducing duplication between federal and provincial processes is a common-sense step that provides certainty, improves timelines, and helps move nation-building projects forward. The Ring of Fire represents a generational opportunity for Northern Ontario, Ontario, and Canada—and this agreement helps unlock that potential.”

NOMA says this will help unlock the economic potential of the Ring of Fire and other mining developments in northern Ontario.
